La rassegna aprirà i battenti il 5 settembre con The Fifth Estate di Bill Condon, con Benedict Cumberbatch nei panni del fondatore di Wikileaks Julian Assange, e si chiuderà con la crime story Life of Crime di Daniel Schechter.
Nel mezzo transiteranno a Toronto, tra gli altri, i nuovi film di Steve McQueen, Atom Egoyan, Jason Reitman, Ralph Fiennes, Daniele Luchetti, Sylvain Chomet, Bertrand Tavernier, Paul Haggis, tutti in anteprima mondiale. Il che vuol dire che non li vedremo alla prossima Mostra del Cinema di Venezia (il cui programma sarà svelato il 25 luglio): a sorpresa niente da fare quindi per uno dei titoli più attesi dell'anno, 12 Years a Slave di McQueen, che era dato quasi per certo tra i titoli in concorso al Lido.
Philomena di Stephen Frears, Under the Skin di Jonathan Glazer, L'intrepido di Gianni Amelio, Night Moves di Kelly Reichardt e Rush di Ron Howard saranno a Toronto ma solo in anteprima nord-americana: ci sono quindi buone possibilità che siano proiettati prima a Venezia.
